MUTUAL AID

#DefundBosCops
2021

Our communities know all too well that police reform does not work. From the implementation of body cameras to “community policing,” we have paid the price of the failures of reform for decades. We refuse to accept that the city's investment in our communities is to add more surveillance and further criminalize us. We do not need more reforms; we need action that moves toward real, long-term change and away from policing.

JOIN OUR COMUNITY AID / RESOURCE POOL

Our work relies solely on community power and support. We believe that if we all do a little, a lot gets done. So what can you do? Do you have any skills, services, or support you can give? Whether it's car support, food support, graphic design skills, coding, or translating documents, all the help is appreciated and needed!

We are fighting for a budget that reflects our values, invests in Black and brown communities, and supports full and vibrant lives for all of Boston’s residents. Our communities are united in our vision and commitment to building a city where we all have what we need to thrive.

To achieve our vision, we demand that Mayor Kim Janey and Boston City Councilors:

Divest $120 million from the Boston Police budget, including a real cap on overtime spending.Invest the $120 million into safety and wellness programming, led by and designed by our communities, and completely disconnected from law enforcement.Freeze all hiring for the Boston Police - no new cops, no new cadets!
We have proposed solutions to the violence and inequity we live every day. Now is the time for City Councilors and the Mayor to be accountable to our movements and invest in our communities.

MUTUAL AID

mutual aid is a political framework of participation that is grounded in ideas of solidarity, community care and anti-capitalism. it asks us to think about how we can support one another without transactional gain or savior mentalities, looking at one another with humanity in our everyday lived experiences and struggles. at its simplest, it's community caring for communtiy.

one of our core values as a collective is transparency. in keeping with this value we would like to announce that, as of april 27th, the FTP Mutual Aid Fund is officially pausing temporarily. we will no longer be taking requests past april 27th. '

any further funds we receive will be put towards fulfilling the $45,000 in the 18 remaining requests we have in our database. please consider donating.

BOSTON PEOPLE'S BUDGET

we must create a mock city budget, through a community input process, as a way to highlight the disparity in community and government priorities, and advocate for a budget that prioritizes the wellbeing of Boston communities that have been historically underserved and marginalized.

about us

OUR COLLECTIVE

This collective is a community of 20 black and brown artists, organizers, and residents of the Greater Boston area. We are youth-led and dedicated to intergenerational collaboration and knowledge sharing. Currently, due to safety and security concerns, recruitment for the collective happens internally and privately. Our latest round of recruitment was April-May 2021.

The mission of For The People (FTP) is to unify Boston by initiating bottom-up solutions that will in turn allow communities to be self-reliant. We are committed to facilitating the divestment and abolition of systems that are actively harmful and oppressive to Black, Brown, and low-income communities. The FTP Collective is a community of organizers that has determined that liberation cannot be achieved through the nonprofit industrial complex due to its proximity to these harmful systems. Instead, our work is grounded in transformative justice as a means of achieving self, collective, and community growth, solidarity as a means to achieve communal power, collective leadership over hierarchy, and redistribution over capitalism.

OUR STRUCTURE

Task Forces
Task Forces are FTP's internal teams created around our community agreements. They work on internal projects to ensure we are adhering to and respecting our community agreements.

Cohorts
Cohorts are external projects that collaborate on community-facing work. They are teams that are either temporary, seasonal, or permanent, and work to carry out a short term goal or community centered task.

Plasmatics
Plasmatics oversee the coordination and collaboration of FTP. They update calendars, send reminders, and do other tasks to support both the cohorts and task forces.

The Plant Model
Like a plant, you need strong, healthy roots to produce a healthy, beautiful flower. Task forces work as the root, which ensure FTP remains committed to our community and community guidelines. Cohorts work as the flower, which indicates the health of the roots, and is above the ground, presenting to the world. The watering can feeds the roots, cleans the flower, and creates an even stronger plant. The Plant Model.
